Happy New Year everyone. 2017 was a fantastic year for me because I started doing what I love at a University I love. I hope that 2017 was as good for you as it was for me and if not, 2018 brings more prosperity!
As a little bit of a back story to this post, it’s about 01:30 on Jan 1st 2018 and I’m a touch tipsy so please excuse anything that doesn’t make sense. I thought I should write something and share my plans for the year with all those who are interested. This is the first year I’ve truly set myself a New Years resolution as the previous ones when I was little of “I’m giving up sweets for the year” or whatever it was never actually happened. So for what will be my 20th year on this planet I decided it’s time to set my first, real, resolution.
For 2018, my aim is to run a total of 1000 miles over the year. Yes I know, everyone says they’re gonna go an get fit for New Years but I’m going to try my absolute hardest to stick to it! I’ve run before however for the past couple years I’ve not done much exercise so I’ll ease myself in to it so I don’t scare myself away from continuing. Anyways, this is a tech blog! Who the hell cares about my fitness? Us computer scientists spend our days in front of a computer with a bag of Doritos, right? Maybe that’s just me…
With regards to 2018 and technology I’m going to try and publish some more projects on my GitHub as I’ve only really got back in to enjoying programming in the past few months. Anything before that felt like a chore. So, I’m hoping to create a load of new, wacky and wonderful projects that will obviously have no use to anyone but me. I’ll still upload them to GitHub though, don’t you worry! The next thing is that I will be writing articles on this site at least once a week. I’ve had multiple websites for probably the past 8 or so years but never really did anything with them. This one however, that’s all going to change! Finally, I’ve always had the dream of starting my own YouTube channel (in fact I did make a channel, many times - no one ever watched them) but with the saturation of quality content on the platform I’m hoping of creating a Podcast with tech news and info that will be possibly available on Spotify and TuneIn as well as iTunes. Over recent years podcasts saw a decline in listeners as internet video gained popularity but this trend seems to be taking a turn. I’d really like to get the University involved with the podcast so I can have some extremely knowledgeable guests on it - with the hopes that the recording will be live streamed so we can interact with and answer any questions you guys may have.
Anyways, those are my hopes for 2018. I wish everyone a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2018! Hit me up on Twitter - @vectreuk - to let me know what you plan to do this year. In the mean time, I’ll see you all on the internet.
